Jon Lord With Pictures

4 - A Change of Plan

In an Australian radio interview Jon Lord explains how he smacked his thumb on the organ at the Sydney Opera House and thus couldn't play piano for a while. This lead to the decision of performing a number of blues gigs with The Hoochie Coochie Men instead.
It is not clear whether the radio listeners got much out of Jon showing the interviewer where he hurt his hand...

Jon Lord meets Australian bass player Bob Daisley from The Hoochie Coochie Men (previously with Rainbow, Ozzy Osbourne, Gary Moore and many others). Together they would go on to perform a number of small blues shows brimming with Hammond majesty.

The DVD includes a fascinating sequence of Jon Lord's first rehearsal with The Hoochie Coochie Men - loose jamming while the roadies set up the equipment.

- I like the way Jimmy does Blind Man. It's a far more tortured way of looking at it.
Jimmy Barnes guested on the blues shows Jon Lord did in Australia. At each show he would sing Hoochie Coochie Man and When A Blind Man Cries. A couple of complete tracks are included on Jon Lord With Pictures, but the Live At The Basement DVD includes the band's complete Sydney show prominently featuring some exciting and invigorating Hammond work from Jon Lord.
